Set during the expansion of the American West, this film follows Roy Whitman, who faces a shortage of women among the workers on his California Valley farm. To solve the problem, he travels east to Chicago to recruit 150 women willing to journey west and become wives for his employees. Ultimately, 138 women are chosen for the perilous, months-long trek across the Great American Desert and the Rocky Mountains, facing numerous challenges along the way.
