Set in 1900, unscrupulous timber baron Jim Fallon plans to exploit a new law to make millions from California's redwood forests. Much of the land he targets is homesteaded by a Quaker colony, who attempt to convince him to spare the giant sequoias—the very trees he covets most. Known for his ability to manipulate, Fallon soon finds himself threatened by rival opportunists, leading to an unexpected alliance.
