While on a fishing trip, Harry Baldwin (Ray Milland) and his family hear a massive explosion and realize that Los Angeles has been devastated by a nuclear attack. With chaos erupting and danger from looters and killers everywhere, Harry escapes to the hills with his family. Determined to protect his loved ones and survive in a world where the old ideals of humanity may be the first casualties, Harry resorts to desperate measures, including holding up a store for supplies and hiding his family in a cave.
