In London, sculptor Ivan Igor struggles desperately to prevent his partner, Worth, from burning his beloved wax museum—and his treasured 'children.' Years later, Igor, now with maimed hands, opens a new museum in New York, relegated to directing lesser artists due to his injuries. When people begin disappearing (including a corpse from the morgue), Igor develops a sinister interest in Charlotte Duncan, the fiancée of his assistant Ralph. This attracts the attention and suspicions of Charlotte's wisecracking roommate, reporter Florence Dempsey.
