Waltzes from Vienna (1934) tells the story of the writing and performance of The Blue Danube. According to director Alfred Hitchcock, the film offered many opportunities to explore the relationship between film and music, with every cut—both cinematic and musical—carefully planned out before shooting began. Hitchcock later described this film as the lowest point of his career, undertaken only due to a lack of other projects at the time. He never directed another musical film after this experience.
