During the wedding ceremony of Ellen and David, a stranger interrupts when the officiant asks, "If anyone knows why these two may not be joined..." The stranger announces that Ellen is already married. Ellen firmly denies this, but as she tries to prove her innocence, the emotional strain threatens her sanity and leads to the death of the man she is accused of already marrying (as well as others).
