Captain Duncan "Mac" Maclain is a formidable private detective who happens to be blind, but whose other senses are sharper than average. He manages his disability with the aid of his loyal dog, Friday, and a human assistant named Marty. Mac is asked by his friend Norma to break up a relationship between her seventeen-year-old stepdaughter, Barbara, and a fifty-year-old actor. When the actor is found murdered and his body goes missing, Mac is drawn into a dangerous investigation that leads him into the heart of an Axis spy ring.
