Set during World War II amidst a severe housing shortage in Washington, D.C., Connie Milligan rents an apartment and decides to sublet half of it as her patriotic duty. Expecting a suitable female tenant, she is surprised when mischievous, middle-aged Benjamin Dingle becomes her roommate. Dingle then sublets his half to young and irreverent Joe Carter, leading to a comedic and romantic situation.
