Rockets Galore (1958)
Set in post-WWII Britain during the Cold War, the government plans to establish a guided missile base on the remote Hebridean island of Todday. The islanders, determined to protect their way of life, resist the construction at every opportunity. An RAF officer sent to negotiate finds himself falling in love with a local girl, deepening his understanding of the islanders' perspective. When a missile test goes awry and the missile crash-lands back on Todday, the locals claim it as their own and celebrate, forcing the RAF to abandon the base. However, not all islanders agree—some see economic opportunity in the base's presence. Led by Father James, they 'discover' a rare species of seagull believed to nest only on Todday, hoping to attract tourists instead. Starring Jeannie Carson, Donald Sinden, Roland Culver, and Mary Campbell. Runtime: 94 minutes. Note: This copy is taken from a VHS transfer but remains watchable.
