Longfellow Deeds leads a quiet life in a small town, where he enjoys simple pleasures like playing the tuba in the local band. His world is turned upside down when he inherits a large fortune from a deceased relative. With his tuba in tow, Deeds moves to the big city, quickly becoming an easy target for opportunists—including the greedy opera committee and sensationalist newspapers. Despite their schemes, Deeds manages to stay one step ahead until he crosses paths with Babe Bennett, a savvy reporter. Babe masquerades as a damsel in distress to get close to Deeds, leading to unexpected complications. When the earnest small-town boy meets the ambitious big-city girl, anything can happen.
