Mary, infatuated with her boss, is devastated to discover he is having an affair with a coworker. Distraught, she impulsively considers ending her life, but her clumsy attempt is interrupted when Tony, a seemingly wealthy and dashing stranger, rescues her from the river. Tony brings Mary home to recover, but the situation becomes complicated when his wealthy fiancée arrives and misunderstands the scene, breaking off their engagement.
