Steven Kenet, suffering from a recurring brain injury, appears to have strangled his wife. After confessing, he is committed to an understaffed county asylum filled with troubled inmates. Dr. Ann Lorrison is initially skeptical of Kenet's account and his reluctance to undergo treatment. However, she begins to doubt his guilt and, against her better judgment, risks her career in a dangerous quest through rain-soaked city streets to uncover the truth.
