Jenny Swanson, a waitress at a college campus, confides in English Professor Ronald Brooke about her willingness to gold-dig and blackmail her way to a vacation in Paris. Her ambition leads her to the New York home of Brooke's future in-laws, the wealthy and contentious Brand family.
