Reporter Frank Ross, though innocent, is convicted of murder and sent to prison. As his colleagues at the newspaper work to uncover who framed him, Frank becomes hardened by the harsh realities of prison, his optimism turning into bitterness. In prison, he meets fellow inmate "Hood" Stacey, and the two form an alliance to help each other.
