Illegal immigrant and showgirl Johnny Jones is facing deportation from the United States. Her only chance to stay is to get married, but her wealthy publisher boyfriend, Barton Kendrick, is already married. In desperation, Johnny meets down-on-his-luck author Bill Smith and proposes a marriage of convenience. However, Bill has ambitions of his own that may affect their arrangement.
