Broadway Melody of 1936
Bob Gordon is producing a new Broadway show, but he is short on funds. The young widow Lillian offers to finance the production on the condition that she can dance in the show. Bert Keeler, a columnist, learns of this arrangement and publishes a somewhat unfriendly article about it. Meanwhile, Gordon's former classmate, Irene Foster, a talented tap dancer from Albany, also vies for the lead role. Determined to help Irene, Bert Keeler and Gordon's secretary, Kitty, devise a plan to secure the starring role for Irene, creating a competition for the spotlight.
