Bill "Williamson," a celebrated dancer, finds his face on the cover of Theatre World magazine, prompting him to reminisce about his past. After returning from World War I, Bill meets the talented singer Selina Rogers at a soldiers' ball and promises to see her again once he becomes successful. As the years pass, the careers of Bill and Selina rise, but their paths cross only briefly, since Selina is hesitant to settle down. The film culminates in a spectacular all-star musical show hosted by Cab Calloway.
