Boston Blackie, an ex-convict and amateur magician, is performing his act at a women's prison when an inmate seizes the chance to escape during his show. Held as an accomplice, Blackie manages to elude custody and launches his own investigation to track down the escapee and her ex-husband—who was involved in the crime that led to her imprisonment.
