Helen Gordon hires Howard Wilton as a handyman to help with chores around her house, unaware of the danger she’s inviting in. Wilton, plagued by insecurity, paranoia, and violent mood swings, believes everyone—including Helen—is against him. After locking her in and disabling the phone, Helen becomes a prisoner in her own home, struggling to escape Wilton’s volatile clutches. When she manages to get a message to the police through a telephone repairman, she discovers Wilton is still in the house.
