Tommy Williams dreams of making it to Broadway, but currently sings for tips in a spaghetti house. When he meets the talented singer Penny Morris, she inspires him to organize a show to send orphaned children on a country holiday. However, Tommy's intentions are less than pure, as he uses the children as a means to further his own ambitions, a fact that Penny soon discovers. With his romance with Penny faltering, an engagement in Philadelphia out of reach, and the looming threat of war in Europe, Tommy finds himself facing many challenges.
