When his car breaks down during a trip from Los Angeles to Texas, John Emmett meets Ann Nicholson, who offers him a lift. He soon discovers that Ann is fleeing from her physician, Dr. Simmons, and the police, who want to question her about the murder of a Central Intelligence Agent in Los Angeles. Ann, originally from Berlin, holds a valuable secret formula for a 4,000-mile-per-hour rocket, written on the back of a small pocket mirror she carries. Her mission is to deliver this formula to a scientist in the United States—but both the scientist and her doctor are enemy agents, and now the F.B.I. is in pursuit as well.
