Set in 1940, "Timbuktu" follows Col. Dufort, who arrives in the city with his wife to take command of the French garrison, which is under threat from a Tuareg uprising allegedly inspired by Mohamet Adjani—a holy man formerly considered a friend of France. Col. and Mme. Dufort journey onward to Bou Djebeha, accompanied by American gunrunner Mike Conway. Soon, Conway becomes romantically entangled with the Colonel's wife. At Bou Djebeha, Conway discovers that Mohamet Adjani has been kidnapped by the evil Emir Bhaki, the true force behind the rebellion. As the danger heightens, Conway and Col.
