Set in 1780, 'The Scarlet Coat' follows Major John Boulton, who is recruited by Colonial intelligence as a counterspy. Boulton feigns desertion to the British forces to uncover the identity of an American traitor known by the code name Gustavus. Despite suspicions from Tory Dr. Odell, Boulton earns the respect of British spymaster Major John Andre. Through his subterfuge, Boulton uncovers that the traitor is none other than American hero General Benedict Arnold, who is plotting to surrender the key colonial position of West Point to the British.
