Set in a peaceful Ukrainian village at the close of the school year in June 1941, "The North Star" follows five young friends whose journey to Kiev is violently interrupted by an attack from German planes during the first wave of the Nazi assault on the Soviet Union. As their village is invaded and occupied, most of the men escape to form a guerrilla unit in the hills, while those who remain struggle to resist the Nazis in any way they can. The situation becomes even more dire when a Nazi doctor takes control of the village and begins exploiting the town's children for blood transfusions to treat wounded German soldiers. Amidst the turmoil, the group of young friends desperately attempts to deliver firearms to the guerrillas fighting for their homeland.
