Set in 1901, the film follows Christopher Leiningen, a determined and stubborn man who arrives in South America at the age of 19 to build levees and claim thousands of acres along the Rio Negro river for a chocolate plantation. Now 34 and inexperienced with women, he sends for a mail-order bride from New Orleans. She is beautiful, independent, and ready to support him—yet Christopher is shocked to discover she is a widow. Feeling betrayed, he rejects her. As she waits for a boat to return to the US, a new crisis emerges: a massive swarm of army ants is set to attack the plantation within days. She decides to stay and help Christopher fight to save his land. Their combined courage, along with the threat of losing everything Christopher has built, tests his resolve and may lead him to reconsider sending her away. The film is in English with foreign subtitles. Cast: - Eleanor Parker - Charlton Heston - Abraham Sofaer - William Conrad Runtime: 95 minutes.
