The Last of the Mohicans (1936)
Set in 1756, during the French and Indian War, Fort William Henry on Lake George is under siege by French forces and their Huron allies led by General Montcalm. Alice and Cora Munro, daughters of British Commander Colonel Munro, journey from Albany to join their father at the threatened fort. They are escorted by Major Duncan Heyward, who has long been in love with Alice, and Magua, a renegade Huron with ulterior motives. Magua betrays the party, leading them into danger, but their rescue comes at the hands of the frontier scout Hawkeye and his companions, Chingachgook and his son Uncas. After safely reaching the fort, Colonel Munro is forced to surrender and is allowed to leave honorably—only to be mortally wounded by Magua during a chaotic attack. Alice and Cora are abducted by Magua, and Heyward, with the help of Hawkeye, Chingachgook, and Uncas, sets out to rescue them.
