After his fiancée Valentine ends their engagement, prominent lawyer Geoffrey Sherwood goes on a drinking spree and impulsively marries a stranger, Miriam Brady. Agreeing to give their marriage a real chance, Geoffrey and Miriam receive help from their sympathetic landlady—a former Floradora girl—who tutors Miriam in etiquette and refinement. Geoffrey regains professional success, but when Valentine tries to rekindle their relationship, Miriam firmly stands her ground. Ultimately, Geoffrey realizes the value of his new life with Miriam, especially after a conversation with Valentine's husband, who calls him a fool for leaving her.
