A traveling dress model, Marsha Mitchell (Ginger Rogers), stops in a Southern town to visit her sister Lucy (Doris Day), who is married to Hank Rice (Steve Cochran), a member of the Ku Klux Klan. While there, Marsha becomes a witness to a murder committed by Klan members. She works with the district attorney, Burt Rainey (Ronald Reagan), to bring those responsible to justice.
