Stanley and Livingstone (1939)
When American newspaperman and adventurer Henry M. Stanley returns from the western Indian wars, his editor, James Gordon Bennett, sends him to Africa to locate Dr. David Livingstone, the missing Scottish missionary. Stanley famously greets him with the words, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume," and finds him administering medicine and religion to the local people. Upon Stanley's return with the story, his account is initially met with disbelief. After Livingstone's eventual death, Stanley chooses to continue the doctor's humanitarian work, though the film takes liberties with historical events. Cast: - Spencer Tracy as Henry M.
