Set in 1915, "Stamboul Quest" follows German Counter-Intelligence Chief von Sturm as he suspects Turkish commander Ali Bey of leaking critical strategic information to the British during the campaigns around the Dardanelles. Von Sturm dispatches Annemarie (Myrna Loy), an operative known also as Fräulein Doktor, to Constantinople to uncover the truth. Along the way, Annemarie becomes entangled with Douglas Beall (George Brent), a charismatic American, leading to complications that force her into dangerous improvisations in order to complete her mission.
