Sir Arthur Blake has inherited the family title and lands from his brother, and employs his orphaned nephew, Benjamin Blake, as a bonded servant. Believing Benjamin was born out of wedlock and thus cannot inherit, Sir Arthur remains cautious. Eventually, Benjamin rebels against his uncle, setting sail to seek his fortune. His hope is that success will enable him to return and prove his claim as the rightful heir to the estate.
