King Solomons Mines 1950 DVD - Deborah Kerr / Stewart Granger
Allan Quatermain (Stewart Granger), an experienced hunter and guide, reluctantly agrees to help Elizabeth Curtis (Deborah Kerr) and her brother John Goode (Richard Carlson) search for her husband, who disappeared in the unexplored African interior while seeking the legendary mines. Armed with a copy of the map her husband used, they are joined by Umbopa (Siriaque), a tall and mysterious native. Although Quatermain is initially averse to women on safari, he and Elizabeth develop feelings for each other over the course of their arduous journey. Along the way, the party encounters Van Brun (Hugo Haas), a lone white man living among a tribe, who has met Curtis. When Quatermain recognizes Van Brun as a fugitive, the group takes him hostage for safety. An attempt by Van Brun to kill Allan results in the death of Quatermain’s trusted aide, Khiva (Kimursi). Quatermain dispatches Van Brun and the group narrowly escapes the angry villagers. Upon reaching the region believed to conceal the mines, they meet people who resemble Umbopa, revealing his royal heritage and his mission to reclaim the throne from the evil King Twala (Baziga). Umbopa leaves to rally his supporters, while Allan, Elizabeth, and John are taken to Twala. During a tense audience, John saves the group from attack with his last rifle bullet. The party is guided by Gagool (Sekaryongo), the king's adviser, to a cave filled with jewels and the skeletal remains of Elizabeth’s husband. Gagool triggers a trap, sealing the party inside the cave, but they escape through an underground stream, abandoning the jewels. They return to the settlement as Umbopa arrives with his followers, determined to challenge Twala. The kingship is decided by a duel to the death. Despite underhanded tactics by Twala's allies, Umbopa emerges victorious, restoring rightful leadership. Umbopa escorts his friends as they begin their journey home, having survived danger and heartbreak.
