Twelve passengers aboard Coast Air Line's flagship, the Silver Queen, are en route to South America when the plane is blown off course by a storm. Crashing in a jungle inhabited by head hunters, pilots Bill and Joe race against time to repair the engines and attempt a desperate takeoff. Facing danger, dwindling fuel, and a damaged plane, only five can be carried to safety. As the stranded group constructs a makeshift runway, their true natures emerge. Tensions mount among the eclectic mix: Bill (the pilot), Peggy (a woman with a tarnished past), Pete (a racketeer escorting his boss's son Tommy), Alice and Judson (eloping lovers whose relationship is tested), Crimp (a detective transporting criminal Vasquez), Professor and Mrs. Spengler (an elderly couple growing closer), and Larry (the flight attendant).
