Sherazade, a dancer, is foretold by the stars that she will become the wife of the Caliph in Baghdad. She confides in Kamar, brother to the Caliph Haroun, who then schemes to overthrow Haroun. Although Kamar's initial coup fails, he ultimately succeeds with the support of the Wasir. Haroun, wounded after the coup, is rescued by Ahmad's acting troupe, where Sherazade nurses him without realizing his identity. When Sherazade learns that Kamar is searching for her, she goes to him but is instead sold, along with the entire troupe, into slavery. The group manages to escape, yet Haroun still faces grave danger. To save him, Sherazade agrees to poison Kamar, but Haroun seeks first to reclaim his rulership.
