Aboard a tramp steamer off the coast of Central America, Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard find themselves among five prisoners being transported to a Nicaraguan prison and Corbett, an American carrying funds for a Honduran counter-revolution. When denied permission to land in Honduras, Corbett frees the prisoners and together they hijack the ship. The group takes the wealthy Sheppards as hostages and sets out on a grueling journey upriver toward Corbett's rendezvous point, facing perilous jungle hazards along the way.
