Battle of the Coral Sea 1959 DVD - Cliff Robertson / Gia Scala
The crew of an American submarine embarks on a reconnaissance mission, photographing Japanese installations using a periscope camera. When they are attacked by the Japanese—paralleling events similar to the USS Perch—the crew is forced to scuttle their submarine and is subsequently captured. Enduring torture at the hands of their captors, the Americans, with the aid of British and Australian prisoners, formulate a daring escape plan in hopes of delivering crucial intelligence to the Allies. The film concludes with dramatic footage of the historic Battle of the Coral Sea, which, according to the story, becomes possible thanks to the information smuggled out by the submariners.
